You may have realised that not many people use the resistance machines much at clubs these days. There is a simple reason for this - we don't advocate their use!
Over the last couple of years we have designed programmes that don't rely upon fixed resistance machines - so now is the time to lay them to rest! Fixed resistance machines have served their time in the fitness industry. They simply have been proven not to be as effective in their role as other methods of resistance training.
Well, fixed resistance machines only work in one dimension of movement. Each of your muscles has the ability to move in three dimensions; lifting, lowering and stabilising, thus leaving two of the dimensions under-used.
It is the two under-used dimensions that muscles often become injured in, as a result of their under-use. When performing the same movement on a pulley machine or on a stability ball for example you will challenge the muscles in all three dimensions.
Each and every fixed resistance machine exercise can be performed on the dual adjustable pulley.
Also, each exercise can be replicated using dumbbells, barbells and bands.

After all, we now have the same equipment as The English Institute of Sport and many other training institutions - 2013 here we come!
And if you are wondering why other gyms continue to use fixed resistance machines then the answer is often a mixture of the following;
A. The trainers lack knowledge and don't have access to the same evidence based exercises as us and are only trained by standard training providers in the UK.
B. The facility doesn't offer training programmes, it is cheaper not to have many instructors and members can generally work machines easily - even if it's not doing them any good!
